The Spirit of Juneteenth

Storytelling Through Design

Through immersive installations and carefully curated historical artifacts, the permanent exhibition galleries will explore Juneteenth as both a local and national narrative, offering visitors a profound connection to the history of emancipation from slavery and the continued pursuit of freedom and equality.

By blending technology, culture, and cutting-edge design, the exhibition will ignite visitors' imaginations, inspiring new ideas and fostering a deeper connection to the world around them. Each experience is designed to center the African American story while encouraging visitors from all walks of life to engage with ongoing legacies of resilience and community-building.

Interactive and Immersive Experiences

The design brings together immersive experiences with a modern approach to storytelling. In select galleries visitors will engage with voice-activated displays, multimedia presentations and deeply personal stories that educate on the movement towards emancipation and freedom and its significance within our nation's history. Local Projects’ signature style of blending personal stories with historical record ensures that visitors leave with a deep understanding of Juneteenth's significance, past, present, and future.

A National Legacy

From the early pioneers and hidden figures of the Juneteenth movement to modern-day advocates, the museum showcases the powerful impact of community and faith. Visitors are invited to reflect on the ongoing quest for equity and justice, gaining tools and inspiration to carry forward the legacy of Juneteenth in their own lives.

The exhibition will also offer a toolkit for visitors, providing information on how to celebrate Juneteenth, connect with mission-aligned organizations, and take meaningful actions in the pursuit of justice.

Crafting a Lasting Impact

As with all of Local Projects’ work, this exhibition is designed to not only educate but also to foster a deep emotional connection. Visitors will have access to family research tools, historical records, and archives, helping them explore their own ancestral stories while connecting with the broader historical context.
