Uniting Voices Presents: A Conversation with Michelle Obama

The National Juneteenth Museum Welcomes Former First Lady in Celebration of Dr. Opal Lee’s Centennial as a Special Installment of the Museum’s Uniting Voices Speaker Series

This October, the National Juneteenth Museum (NJM) will mark an extraordinary moment in its history with A Conversation with Michelle Obama, as a special installment of the Museum’s Uniting Voices Speaker Series.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama will join the National Juneteenth Museum on October 7 at 6:00 p.m. at the Fort Worth Convention Center in celebration of Ms. Opal Lee’s Centennial Celebration.

The event takes place on the 100th birthday of Dr. Opal Lee, the Grandmother of Juneteenth, whose decades of advocacy helped catalyze the movement to establish Juneteenth as a federal holiday and whose vision continues to propel NJM forward.

Mrs. Obama joins Uniting Voices during a defining chapter for the Museum. Earlier that day, NJM will host Clearing the Way, a ceremony at the future site of the National Juneteenth Museum marking the clearing of the Southside Community Center and the transition toward construction of the Museum’s permanent home in Fort Worth’s Historic Southside.

Together, these moments celebrate Dr. Lee’s extraordinary legacy while looking ahead to the future she has worked for decades to make possible.

Since its launch in 2023, Uniting Voices has brought nationally recognized leaders, thinkers and changemakers to Fort Worth for meaningful conversations about history, freedom, culture and our collective future. Previous speakers have included Equal Justice Initiative Founder and Executive Director Bryan Stevenson, journalist and author Isabel Wilkerson, professor, literary scholar, and filmmaker Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and former Ambassador to the United Nations Andrew Young.
